Coffee County proposes to increase the tons per day intake of the Coffee County Sanitary Landfill located at 7733 AL Highway 125 from 1200 tons per day to 3000 tons per day. In determining whether to recommend approval of the proposed facility daily tonnage increase for the Coffee County Sanitary Landfill, the County Commission shall consider each of the six (6) factors as shown in Alabama Code § 22-27-48(c).
The six (6) aforementioned factors include: consistency with the solid waste management need as identified in the Solid Waste Management Plan; relationship to local planned or existing development, to major transportation arteries, and to existing state primary and secondary roads; location of existing industries that generate large volumes of solid waste or the development of industries that will generate solid waste; costs and availability of public services, facilities, and improvements to support and protect public health, safety, and the environment; minimization of impacts to public health and safety; and, social and economic impacts on the affected community.
A public comment period will commence on June 22, 2026 and will extend through the public hearing on July 27, 2026. A Public Hearing will be held at the regular Coffee County Commission Meeting on July 27, 2026, at the Coffee County Commission, 1065 E McKinnon Street, New Brockton, AL 36351. Interested persons may attend and comment at the meeting.
